Dennis Rude
Stonecutter & President
Cathedral Stone Products

Dennis recognized early on that using polymer-based masonry repair mortars was the cause of restoration and repair failures. Repairs were lasting 3-5 years when they should be lasting 20 years or more.

Active in the stone trades since 1961, Dennis Rude completed the Stonecutter's Apprenticeship in 1969. The apprenticeship was interrupted by his service in the Navy from 1964 to 1968, during which he completed a tour of duty in Vietnam. From 1970 to 1977, he was a stonecutter for the Washington National Cathedral, where he was awarded the Washington Building Congress Award/Excellence in Craftsmanship. Beginning in 1977, he headed a team to refurbish the old R.B. Phelps Stoneworks in northeast Washington and established the shop as a working stone supply business for the Washington National Cathedral.

In 1978, Dennis established the Cathedral Stone Company as a custom stonework for embassies, churches, and other institutional buildings. In 1982, Dennis studied and worked alongside Heinz Jahn, creator of JAHN Restoration Mortars, in his Netherlands-based laboratory. One year later, Dennis secured the exclusive North American rights to distribute the JAHN Restoration Mortars. In 1988, Dennis launched Cathedral Stone Products for the purpose of importing and distributing JAHN products.

In 2004, Cathedral Stone Products began manufacturing all JAHN mortars exclusively for North America.

Today, Cathedral Stone Products has a complete line of Masonry Restoration and Repair Products, a state-of-the-art testing laboratory, and offers professional training and certification for all types of masonry repair and restoration.
